Iowa's beef industry
A hidden treasure
One of Iowa's hidden treasures is its beef industry. Iowa is home to more than 1 million beef cows and more than 1 million cattle on feed. The state has nearly 34,000 farms that have cattle, including more than 23,000 beef cow herds and more than 10,000 feedlots — the most in the nation!
Iowa is unique among beef-producing states. Its rolling hills, green pastures and plentiful access to corn and feed make it one of the few states that has all the necessary resources for raising high-quality cattle.
The Iowa Beef Center is working to boost growth in the state's beef industry through research, education and outreach.
