Marketing What's Under the Hide
Today's beef industry is moving toward value-based marketing of finished cattle. This consists of selling cattle on a price formula, which determines the value of each animal based on quality grade and yield grade. Iowa's cattle producers are extremely interested in this marketing method but have had many questions about whether they can successfully compete with their genetics and feeding systems.
So, members of the Iowa Beef Center worked with more than 40 Iowa producers to collect information on 93 groups of market-ready cattle to research these concerns and help producers with this type of marketing.
